Yi-Chia Chien earned his M.A. degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from the University of Iowa, and received professional training in L2 Chinese teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University and National Taiwan Normal University. Prior coming to Rice, he taught Chinese language courses at the University of Iowa, DePauw University, and Fu Jen Catholic University, Taiwan. He also has teaching experience at domestic immersion program (STARTALK), study abroad programs, and online programs. His research interest focuses on pedagogical grammar of Chinese, acquisition of Chinese as a second language, instructed second language acquisition (ISLA), and Chinese language pedagogy. He has been always dedicated to facilitating and maximizing students’ learning opportunities, bringing authentic Chinese-speaking world to class, and loves to see his students becoming interculturally communicative.
