Celebrating Women Through the Lens of Angola

Angolan Community Comes to Rice!

Children from the Houston Angolan Community

To cap off Women’s History Month, CLIC and the Office of Multicultural Affairs hosted the Consul General of Angola in Houston’s event, “Celebrating Women through the lens of Angola” on Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2022.
Members of the Angolan community in Houston provided a variety of wonderful Angolan food.  Examples of Angolan art and music, as well as videos about the country were on display.  A highlight was a fashion show featuring Angolan style modeled by children from the Angolan community.
Rice students were able to enjoy the food and festivities.  Students of Portuguese practiced their language skills with the Angolan guests. A great opportunity for cultural exchange and something we look forward to doing again.
This event reflects the Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication’s efforts to reach out to the communities in the Houston area where the languages we teach are spoken.
