Rice in Jordan

Cover one year worth of Arabic language studies and earn six academic credits during our faculty-led summer program in Amman, Jordan. The Program is premised on a full-immersion approach that allows participants to make progress in Arabic by leaps and bounds in a relatively short amount of time. During the six-week program, students complete CLIC 369 (Intercultural Communication in Arabic) & ARAB 477 (Middle East: Culture & Society), both of which are only offered in Jordan.

Courses: CLIC 369 and ARAB 477
Prerequisites:ARAB 264 or placement in ARAB 301
Application deadline: January 17, 2025

Participants who successfully complete the program can:

Enroll in upper-level Arabic courses in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026
Fulfill the experiential learning component of the Certificate in Language and Intercultural Communication in Arabic

*Tuition includes
Six Rice credit hours
Accommodation with a host family for six weeks
All excursions, including transportation, meals, and a local guide
Language partners
Community outreach and visits to local NGOs
24-hour WIFI and access to a fully equipped kitchen
Transportation to and from the airport
Welcome and farewell lunch

Please inquire about the possibility of combining your study abroad program in Jordan with a research project/internship through the Rice in Jordan Wagoner Research Pathway.
