Kai-Ying Hsu received her M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Texas Tech University, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Linguistics from National Taipei University, Taiwan. She has been a foreign language instructor in the United States and Taiwan to teach English and Mandarin to different age groups. Prior to joining Rice University, she taught a variety of Chinese language courses at universities in Texas. She also has the teaching experience in the STARTALK summer programs to design immersive Chinese language and culture lessons for teenaged students. As an instructor, she strives to enhance leaners’ ability to use the target language in a culturally appropriate manner and working with students to promote a positive learning environment. Her research interests include Computer-assisted Language Learning, communitive competence, and language pedagogy.
