Photo of Dr. Hossam Elsherbiny

Hossam Elsherbiny received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Ain Shams in Egypt. Prior to joining Rice, Dr. Elsherbiny taught Modern Standard (MSA) and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA) at the University of Minnesota. In addition to his works in Linguistics and Translation Studies, Dr. Elsherbiny’s research interests and teaching portfolio span a wide variety of topics, including Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Media Arabic, and Contemporary Egyptian Literature. Articles by Dr. Elsherbiny have been published in various journals, such as Recall (Cambridge University Press) and The Journal of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL).

Dr. Elsherbiny is also a Certified ACTFL OPI Tester and recipient of multiple awards and recognitions, including The Best International Translation Award by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and The Certificate of Teaching Excellence by the University of Minnesota.
